You have been invited to an interview but don't know how to answer all the questions? In this post, you'll find valuable tips to optimally prepare yourself for challenging questions and increase your chances of getting an offer.

Can you tell us about yourself?

Your potential employer isn't interested in your favorite color or hobbies. They want to know information that's important for the position you've applied for. Answer the question by focusing on the most important experiences and skills that qualify you for the role.

Why did you apply for this position?

You shouldn't respond that you're currently short on cash and urgently need a job. Instead, you should show your interest in the position and the company. If you've researched the company beforehand, you can refer to one or two specific aspects that particularly appeal to you. Also, it's important to mention the relevant qualifications you already have here.

Why do you want to work for this company?

Living around the corner from the office might not be the best argument for this question. Inform yourself in advance, mention the key facts about the company, and discuss which qualities appeal to you the most. You can usually find all the necessary information on the company's website and their social media channels.

What would your boss say about you?

It's better not to mention that your boss regularly complained about your tardiness. Of course, you shouldn't lie in response to this question, but don't mention traits that would severely hinder collaboration. Ensure your answer maintains a balance without leaning too much towards positive or negative aspects.

How do you handle criticism?

Don't respond that any criticism falls on deaf ears with you. Show that you implement feedback as best as possible and are open to suggestions for improvement. Examples from specific situations and how you reacted are well-suited for this.

Where do you see yourself in 5 years?

Maybe don't tell your interviewer about your fantasy of living on a deserted island within 5 years. Instead, showcase your career goals and how you intend to develop further. This demonstrates commitment and is received positively.

Why are you leaving your last job?

This question isn't your chance to criticize your last employer. Focus on positive reasons here, for example, that you have new goals that are better met in another company.

Why should we choose you?

Arrogance won't get you far with this question. However, you may confidently present the knowledge and skills you bring that qualify you for this position and the added value you would bring to the company. Try to sell yourself as best as possible without exaggerating.

Do you have any more questions?

Asking about your interviewer's favorite color might not go down well here. Now you need to show that you have given thoughtful consideration to the position and have initiative. Avoid asking about information that is irrelevant or can be answered with a simple Google search; instead, focus on questions related to the role or significant aspects of the company.

Conclusion

The interview is a valuable opportunity to present yourself at your best. By skillfully answering the most commonly asked questions, you demonstrate not only your professional qualifications but also your suitability for the company and the position.
