Head of Pain Medicine, 80–100 %

As part of a planned succession arrangement due to the retirement of the current postholder, we are looking for a Head of Pain Medicine in the role of Chief Physician starting in May 2027 or by agreement. In this demanding leadership position, you will be responsible for the professional, strategic, and personnel development of the established Center for Pain Medicine and will sustainably shape pain medical care at the City Hospital Zurich. The ZSM team, consisting of senior physicians, assistant physicians, pain nurses, medical practice assistants, and nursing specialists, looks forward to welcoming you.

Responsibilities

• You will ensure comprehensive pain medical care at all locations of the City Hospital Zurich.

• You will be responsible for the pain medical contribution within the certified surgical centers and promote interdisciplinary collaboration.

• You will lead and further develop the specialized pain outpatient clinics in close collaboration with the surgical clinics.

• You will make a significant contribution during rounds, consultations, and the interdisciplinary coordination of complex patients and establish structured treatment concepts, standards, and guidelines.

• You will secure and expand the interventional pain therapy offerings in line with current medical developments.

• You will take on personnel and professional leadership of your team and promote a respectful and performance-oriented collaboration.

• You will ensure the training, further education, and continuing education of staff and contribute to the sustainable development of pain medicine at the City Hospital.

Profile

• You have completed specialist training, ideally in anesthesiology, as well as a recognized qualification in pain medicine (SPS, SSIPM) and wish to actively develop interventional pain medicine.

• You bring several years of experience in the interdisciplinary and multimodal treatment of complex pain patients and have a solid understanding of modern pain therapy concepts.

• You represent a biopsychosocial treatment approach and have completed further training in psychosomatic and psychosocial medicine (SAPPM), ideally with a certificate of competence.

• You ideally complement your profile with experience or a qualification in neural therapy or a comparable pain medicine-related further education.

• You have already gained leadership experience or bring the potential and motivation to successfully take on a demanding leadership role.

• You are familiar with the Swiss healthcare system and the current tariff system, are well-networked, and are interested in health policy developments.

• You impress with your high social and communication skills, your structured and solution-oriented working style, as well as your commitment to quality, innovation, and the further development of staff and care offerings.

The Center for Pain Medicine (ZSM) is an established and strategically important part of the City Hospital Zurich. Since 2014, it has been operated as an independent center within the Institute of Anesthesiology and has over 20 years of tradition in outpatient pain care, offering comprehensive, multimodal, and interdisciplinary care for patients with acute and chronic pain syndromes. Thanks to close collaboration with surgical specialties and certified centers, the ZSM makes a significant contribution to the treatment quality of patients at the City Hospital and enjoys great trust from referring physicians.
