Your contribution

• Analyze structured and unstructured data of national geology (e.g., geological reports, drilling profiles)

• Develop automatic routines and intelligent tools for the collection, preparation, classification, validation, and management of geological data

• Conduct your own projects and collaborate in ongoing data science projects in exchange with external partners

• Document and communicate insights and best practices from data analysis and software development

What makes you unique

• University degree (MSc or PhD from ETH, EPFL, university or FH) in computer science, data science, geoinformatics/GIS or a similar field (degree obtained less than 18 months before starting the position)

• Initial experience with data analysis, data science, and artificial intelligence, as well as basic knowledge of Python programming

• Interest in questions that connect geology and modern information technologies

• Good self-organization and willingness to learn

• Active knowledge of two official languages as well as English

swisstopo is the federal competence center for geoinformation. It is responsible for national surveying and coordinates the federal activities regarding geodata and geoservices. swisstopo provides its partners and customers with current, high-quality spatial reference data across the entire territory of Switzerland and offers its products, for example, in the form of printed or digital national maps, as 3D models or web services. The office is also the federal expert authority for geology and the supervisory authority for official surveying.
